Hyderabad, May 12: The State has bagged as many as 13 of the top 25 ranks in the Civil Services Examinations-2010 the results of which were released on Wednesday.
And, at least 44 figured in the top 500. Heading the list is all India second ranker, Swetha Mohanty, an Assistant Commissioner in the Customs department in Siliguri, West Bengal. Her father PK Mohanty is a 1979 batch IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre and has served in various capacities including as Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad.
PK Mohanty, Secretary and Mission Director, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, New Delhi, is in the US on official work. Speaking to Express over phone, he said, ‘’it is celebration time but unfortunately I am missing it since I am in the US. I had advised her to choose Public Administration and Anthropology as optional subjects. Besides, she has a thorough knowledge of those subjects.” Swetha crossed the rubicon in her second attempt. Her proud father expressed the hope that “she will be a good and sincere IAS officer and strive for people’s welfare.’’ Swetha Mohanty, whose husband is an assistant district magistrate in Darjeeling, has graduated in computer science from Gokaraju Ranga Raju Institute of Engineering and Technology (GRIET), JNTU.
Several rankers hail from rural areas and many are leaving jobs in various government departments to enter All India Services. P Sivasanker, who secured all India 53rd rank, is an assistant commissioner in the Income Tax department. A native of Uravakonda in Anantapur district, his parents P Subba Raiyudu and Sarada are illiterate and depend on agriculture. “I want to serve the rural masses as I am aware of the condition they live in. I was born and grew up in rural areas. I did B.Sc Computers in Anantapur and my Master’s in Anthropology in the Osamania University. I chose History and Telugu literature as my optional subjects in civils. I am happy I got the chance to work for the people,” Sivasanker said.
Three of the rankers come from the families of IAS and IPS officers. Abhishek Mohanty, who secured 139th rank, is the son of retired IPS officer and former DGP AK Mohanty. Chittoor Nallapareddy Deevan Reddy, who secured 496th rank, is the son of C N Gopinath Reddy, Director General, Prisons.
