Andhra Pradesh Assembly today unanimously resolved to request the centre to ban the movie ‘ ‘Innocence of Muslims’, its trailer and other contents on the internet through social media and other Websites. While moving the resolution just a few minutes before adjournment of the House for the day, Speaker Nadendla Manohar said the House urged the Government of india to initiate Immediate action which would preserve the communal harmony and maintenance of peace. The House also urged the centre to enact appropriate legislation to prevent the social media from indulging in acts which are likely to influence adversely the sentiments of all religious, he said. Since there was no unanimity among the members on other issues, the resolution was passed on the floor leaders meeting convened earlier over banning of provocative movie in view of maintaning communal peace and harmony in the state, the speaker added.
It may be mentioned that Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi earlier had demanded in the BAC meeting held on September 16, to pass a resolution in the Legislative Assembly to ban US-made anti-islam film with the support of the Centre.
The film has triggered violent protests across the world. UNI
