Hyderabad, March 28: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly tonight passed a bill to amend the Lokayukta Act for bringing elected representatives of all local bodies as well as government officers of certain ranks under its purview for trying charges of corruption.
The amendments seek to impose penalty on those who file false complaints with the Lokayukta, which will now bring under its ambit chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of Zilla Parishads and mandal parishads, zilla parishad territorial constituency members, mandal parishad territorial constituency members, mayors and deputy mayors of municipal corporations, chairpersons and deputy chairpersons of municipal councils, corporators, councillors, panchayat sarpanches and members.
Similarly, revenue divisional officers, deputy superintendents of police, police inspectors, tehsildars, mandal development officers and officers of the rank too have been brought under the Lokayukta purview since a large number of complaints were coming up against them.
