New Delhi: Recently, the government extended the deadline to link Aadhaar with Bank account. However, now there are reports which claimed that anyone who knows your 12-digit Aadhaar number can find out the name of the bank in which you have an account.
According to the news published in NDTV, if you have linked your bank account with Aadhaar, anyone who has your Aadhaar number can find out the name of the bank in which you have an account.
It is an SMS-based service and unfortunately, this process does not even have the authentication safeguard of the OTP.
Here’s how it works:
- Dial *99*99*1# from any mobile number.
- Then it will ask you to enter 12-digit Aadhaar number.
- After entering Aadhaar number, it will ask to either confirm or cancel.
- Once you confirm it, bank name linked to the entered Aadhaar number will be revealed. The exact message will be, “Your Aadhaar number XXX is linked to Name of the Bank. Last updated on date and year.”
However, this process does not work for all bank and it only reveals the name of the one bank if Aadhaar number is linked to multiple bank account, NDTV reported.
