Kakinada, July 25: Lok Satta state executive president DVBS Varma has said resignations of MLAs and MPs would no way solve the problem and what needed was the political will and wisdom to sort out the issue across the table. Addressing a press conference along with Y D Ramarao, party Vice-President, and Dr Vijayalakshmi, Executive Member, here today, he said agitations and counter agitations in Andhra Pradesh would further complicate the issue and nothing could be achieved in the surcharged atmosphere. ”Whether it is in favour of separation or unification, peaceful atmosphere is required and leaders of both the regions should exhibit political wisdom and foresight and prepare people in favour of a solution they arrive at across the table. ”Andhra Pradesh has already suffered a lot because of maladministration on one side and the agitations on the other. The MLAs and MPs should not forget that Assembly or Parliament alone are supreme in taking any crucial decision and outside the Houses nothing could be done. They could put fourth their views effectively only when they are the members of the legislative bodies,” he added. Referring to the growing number of tenant farmers suicides, Mr Varma said the issuing of identity cards to eligible tenant farmers would not solve the problem. ”It is going a on a snails pace and as against 60 lakh estimated tenant farmers so far, only three lakh farmers were issued with the cards,’ he said, adding unless and until the existing tenancy act was scrapped and awareness was created among the land owners, allaying the fears on their future, the plight of tenant farmers remain same and their suicides were bound to continue. He demanded the union government to bring out a comprehensive legislation bringing Lokpal, Lokayukt and local bodies Ombudsman under its purview to weed out corruption in the country.
