Anupam Kher ‘overwhelmed’ with response to ‘Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha’

New Delhi, Nov 16 : Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, who staged his play ‘Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha’s 61st show recently in the national capital along with other brilliant actors Neena Gupta and Rakesh Bedi, feels overwhelmed with the response of the play.

“I believe in the kind of theatre where people can connect with what is happening on stage. The story has to be about audience’s life. The moment I heard about ‘ Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha’, without even listening to the script I agreed to do it because it’s a relatable play for every age group. We started to work on the project and it took us four years to stage the play. We have performed it all over America, Singapore, Kuwait, Mumbai, Chennai, Dubai, Bangalore and Delhi, and the response has been overwhelming so far,” said Kher in an exclusive conversation with ANI.

The premise of the play is a love story of Pritam Chopra (character played by Anupam Kher) and Hema Roy (character played by Neena Gupta). However, the story deals with a lot of themes like women empowerment, nostalgia and comedy.

The writer and director of the play Rakesh Bedi, who has also played a cameo in thespian art, expressed, “It is always a pleasure to work with seasoned actors like Anupam and Neena. They are the people who have seen life, are accomplished and very intelligent. So, when you direct such people their own experience adds to the depth of the character.”

The play is a subtle blend of theatrical and cinematic experience. The cinema effects have been given by director Neeraj Pandey.

‘Mera Who Matlab Nahi Tha’ will tour to Surat, Jaipur, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and few other places in coming months. (ANI)
