Hyderabad: Though Urdu has been declared as the 2nd official language of Telangana, its implementation has not begun in government departments. On the other side lack of Urdu facilities is witnessed in educational institutions.
Despite government’s order anti-Urdu stand of Dr B R Ambedkar Open University is still continued. Last year the university had suddenly closed Urdu Medium graduation course. After Siasat daily invited attention, the government intervened and directed the university to continue Urdu medium graduation. They gave the reason of non-availability of Urdu books. After the protest by Urdu-knowing people and government’s intervention admissions were given into Urdu medium.
The graduation first-year exams will be held in March but sadly Urdu syllabus books have not been provided to the students yet. It is said that classes were conducted for Telugu medium students but permission was not granted to conduct Urdu medium students at any study centre, as a result Urdu medium students were deprived of counselling classes. The university has not provided Urdu medium option at its website, though admission process has begun.
