Anti-Terror Ops by Government are slack: BJP

Hyderabad, April 07: The US strike against Osama bin Laden has come in handy for BJP leaders to point a critical finger at the performance of the Congress-led UPA government in tackling terrorism in India.

BJP senior leader Ch Vidyasagar Rao said the party would be undertaking a special campaign in various parts of the country to drive home the point that the Union government has failed to match the achievements of the earlier BJP-led NDA government on tackling terrorism.

Vidyasagar Rao said during NDA rule, the government clamped a ban on 30 terrorist organisations and eliminated 9,000 terrorists.

In Jammu & Kashmir alone, nearly 7,100 terrorists were killed, of whom 45 percent were foreigners.

The NDA also put a stop to cross-border infiltration into Jammu & Kashmir. Before the NDA came to power, there were 2,600 infiltrators into Jammu & Kashmir which was brought down to 383 during its six years in power. Before 1998, security forcess managed to destroy only 28 ISI camps all over the country. In comparison, the NDA regime destroyed nearly 272 such camps.
