Anti-Telangana stir picks pace, TDP MLAs go on fast

Hyderabad, December 14: TDP is caught between the devil and the deep sea, with party MLAs from Andhra and Rayalaseema region deciding to intensify their agitation from Monday.

In Vijayawada, four TDP leaders have launched indefinite fast and gave a bandh call on Monday, while Telangana MLAs seem to be contemplating to put counter pressure. Chenamaneni Ramesh from Karimnagar has resigned from the party as well as from the assembly. R Prakash Reddy from Narsampet in Warangal resigned from the assembly on Saturday and more leaders are likely to do so on Monday. Two Rajya Sabha MPs — M V Mysoora Reddy and N Hariskrishna — and Chitoor MP N Sivaprasad have resigned from Parliament opposing bifurcation of the state.

Although party president N Chandrababu Naidu has been holding tele-conference with the leaders and asking them to maintain restrain, they have reportedly told him that emotions in the two regions are running high and they would go ahead with the agitations. They have also reportedly told Naidu that they would ensure that party cadres don’t resort to violence.

The Telangana leaders in the party have been asked not to make any statement till the crisis is over on the issue of separate Telangana. But the Telangana leaders are feeling the pressure from constituents to come out with a clear stand on the issue. Senior party leader and MLA from Station Ghanpur Kadiam Srihari said he would resign if the party takes a U-turn Telangana.

Some leaders blame the Centre for the political crisis in the state. They claim that while TDP isn’t opposed to a separate state, it wants that the process should be taken up only after amicably resolving the contentious issues.
