Jordan, February 09:Jordanians have voiced solidarity with the protesters in Egypt.
Hundreds of Jordanians have demonstrated in the streets of capital Amman in a show of support for the uprising in Egypt against President Hosni Mubarak’s regime.
Scores of trade unionists and leftist youths staged a sit-in on Tuesday outside the Egyptian Embassy in the Jordanian capital in a display of solidarity with Egyptian protesters, AFP reported.
“The people want Mubarak to step down. Down with Mubarak. Long live Egypt, long live the revolt,” chanted the demonstrators, calling on the US oldest ally in the region to step down.
They also carried a large Egyptian flag and pictures of Egyptian protesters who lost their lives in clashes with security forces who used excessive force to suppress the popular protests.
The protesters in Amman said they would sign the flag and send it to Egypt. Jordan’s Islamic movement plans a similar demonstration on Wednesday.
Widespread anti-government protests in Egypt have entered their third week in Egypt, with thousands remaining in Cairo’s Liberation Square — the epicenter of the uprising — vowing not to go home until Mubarak resigns.
