Anti-Littering checks by SCR yield Rs 93 Lakh

The South Central Railway intensified the drive towards maintaining cleanliness on railway premises by undertaking intensified checks against littering and spitting etc., on railway premises and trains in tune with the Swachh Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Station Managers, Ticket Collectors and other authorized railway officials are carrying out these checks in railway premises and trains with a view to provide a clean and pleasant rail journey to the passengers.

During the nine months period from April, 2014 to January 2015, of the current financial year, 46598 persons were detected and penalized for violating cleanliness rules in all the six Divisions of SCR. An amount of Rs. 93.19 lakh was realized from these offenders towards penalty, the SCR said in a press release here.

During the month of January 2015 itself, 4248 persons were apprehended for violating the provisions of Indian Railways (Penalties for Activities Affecting Cleanliness at Railway Premises) Rules-2012. This includes 1156 persons in Secunderabad Division, 2135 persons in Vijayawada Division, 632 persons in Guntakal Division, 40 persons in Hyderabad Division, 63 persons in Nanded Division and 222 persons in Guntur Division who were detected and penalized for violating the rules pertaining to maintainance of cleanliness at Railway premises. An amount of Rs. 8.50 Lakh was realized from these offenders towards penalty. (INN)
