New Delhi, July 10: The Government today said the precise effect of cheap imported goods from China on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) was varied and not quantifiable.

However, as many as 41 anti-dumping cases had invited action by the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties(DGAD) during the last three years and duties had been levied in 23 cases.

Minister of State(Independent Charge) For Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Dinsha Patel said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that the DGAD initiates anti-dumping investigations on the basis of applications filed by domestic industries. supported by evidence of dumping, injury and casual link between dumped imports and alleged injury to domestic industry.

Replying to another question, Mr Patel said there could not be any comparative assessment of the MSEs in China nd India in view of the different definitions in the two countries.

He, however, said China was one of India’s main competitor in the world market of handicrafts.
