Ansari’s party slams Hurriyat leadership

Srinagar, April 28: The Ittehadul Muslimeen yesterday criticised moderate Hurriyat leadership over its “unilateral” decision to suspended the party from the amalgam after its leader Maulana Abbas Ansari met Centre’s interlocutors.

“The unilateral decision to suspend Ittehadul Muslimeen was unconstitutional and regrettable. The way Ansari’s name was highlighted, it seems to be a conspiracy to damage his pro-freedom image,” the party said in its six-page reply to the show cause notice issued by the Hurriyat.

In a statement issued here, Ittehadul Muslimeen said it stood by the decision of the Hurriyat Conference not to hold talks with the interlocutors but Ansari “could not have shut the doors on them as it was against the traditions of Islam”.

Ittehadul Muslimeen was suspended from the Executive Committee of the amalgam on April 20 after Ansari met Dileep Padgaonkar-led team at his residence.
