Ansari praises Arogyasri, Jalayagnam

Hyderbad, August 02: Vice-President Hamid Ansari, who came here for a day’s visit, is all praise for Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s pet programmes Arogyasri and Jalayagnam. He said that he had not seen such an innovative programmes elsewhere in the country.

According to a press release, Ansari said being a doctor, Rajasekhara Reddy knew the importance of health of the people. “I came to know that the health scheme is not only helping the poor but also middle class families.

It is a progress step,’’ the Vice-President reportedly remarked.

The Vice-President took time off to speak to the Chief Minister at a high tea given by Governor N D Tiwari at Raj Bhavan. Rajasekhara Reddy explained to the Vice-President how Arogyasri was launched in 2007 in three districts.

He also informed Ansari that a team from Delhi Government visited the State to study the programme. About 15 states have undertaken study of Arogyasri, the Chief Minister told Ansari. The Planning Commission had recommended for implementation of the scheme in the entire country, Rajasekhara Reddy told Ansari.

Ansari reportedly hailed the Jalayagnam programme also.

“As a fomrer diplomat I have travelled and visited several countries and knew the havoc created by scarcity of water and food.

“Jalayagnam would remain as a milestone in the agriculture sector,’’ the Vice-President told the Chief Minister.

According to a CMO press release, the Chief Minister in detail explained to the Vice- President about other welfare and development initiatives taken by his Government.
