Another terror attack will hit Indo-Pak talks: PM

New Delhi, November 13: After the warmth of his meetings with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in the Maldives, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is dealing with the cold realities back home, defending the resumption of the dialogue process 3 years after 26/11 attacks.

Putting the spotlight back on Indo-Pak ties, the Prime Minister had a word of caution. He said another attack like Mumbai will hit talks.

He said that though the talks were on the right track, another 26/11 like attack would jeopardise the dialogue.

“Not in blind faith. I believe Pak Army also behind process. But any Mumbai type attack will be a setback,” the PM said.

Ahead of parliament’s winter session next week BJP leader LK Advani has already criticised the government.

“Certificate to Gilani is a mistake,” Advani said.

Pakistan’s broken promises on the 26/11 trial include the failure to provide voice samples of the accused, to hunt down the masterminds and the ISI link detailed by David Headley, and no action against Lashkar founder Hafiz Saeed and his Jamaat ud Dawa.

Officials say that they now hope Pakistan’s announcement that it is sending a judicial commission shortly will speed up the 26/11 trial there. They also hope that the Maldives meeting won’t face the wave of criticism that washed away the joint declaration with Pakistan 2 years ago at Sharm el Sheikh.
