Warangal, August 02: A day after the suicide of an engineering graduate on the OU campus for the cause of separate Telangana, another youngster sent the police and politicians into a tizzy by climbing a high-rise cell tower and threatening to jump down.
He demanded that the Congress legislator from Warangal (East) should resign and fight for Telangana. It took nearly four hours for police, student leaders of the Kakatiya University JAC, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, K Taraka Rama Rao and the boy’s father to convince him to come down without harming himself.
The drama unfolded around 4.30 p.m when Thota Dinesh, a 22-year-old B.Com graduate from Kasibugga in Warangal district, climbed atop the cell tower in Kasibugga town. Dinesh called up a news channel and conveyed them his demand.
“I am a Congress activist and I worked for the party in 2009 elections. These very leaders are betraying the cause of separate Telangana,” Dinesh claimed.
As the news broke out, police and leaders rushed to the spot and tried to persuade the youngster to give up his protest but Dinesh did not relent. Legislative Council chairperson Ghanta Chakrapani talked to the youth on his mobile phone but even that did not work. Dinesh’s father Narasimha Rao, Warangal West MLA D Vinay Bhaskar, Sircilla legislator K Taraka Rama Rao and Chandrasekhar Rao also could not make him change his mind. Finally, East MLA Saraiah spoke to Dinesh and assured him that the Congress legislators are fighting for separate Telangana and it would materialise soon. Only then Dinesh brought the curtains down on the drama.
