Another rainy day for Delhiites

New Delhi, August 24: Delhiites woke up to yet another rainy morning on Tuesday which brought with it attendant problems of waterlogging and traffic snarls in several areas.

The rain gauges measured 20.8 mm of showers for a period of 24 hours ending 8:30 am. The city received 4.8 mm of rains after 5:30 pm yesterday.

The Weather Office said the capital has received 670.3 mm of rains since July 5 when monsoon reached the capital.

The rains once again brought with it traffic snarls, water-logging and vehicle breakdowns. Vehicular movement was slow on Ring Road, Munirka, Laxmi Nagar, Ashram, Mehrauli and Mathura Road.

Traffic was also moving slowly on NH 8 which connects Delhi and Gurgaon and DND flyover which connects the capital and Noida.

As the sky opened up, vehicular movement also became slow in areas like ITO, Vikas Marg, Connaught Place and AIIMS.

The city has been hit by incessant rains for the past five days, which brought with it water-logging and huge traffic jams.

Yamuna was last night flowing at a level of 205.19 metres, 36 cm above the danger level of 204.83 metres.

People living close to the river bank have been evacuated and shifted to camps set up in safer areas, officials said.

Some 20 camps have been set up to provide shelter to the people affected by the rise in water level, and arrangements for medical and food facilities have been made, they said.

Met office said the next 24 hours are likely to see a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers, one or two of which may be heavy.
