Abu Dhabi, January 24: In a magical night, the German superstar violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter performed in the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi last Saturday night as part of the second season of Abu Dhabi Classics organised by Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) from 23 October 2009 till next May.
Mutter constantly been acclaimed for her technical perfection, burnished tone and emotional depth by critics and audiences all over the world even since conductor Herbert von Karajan discovered her as a 14-year-old prodigy some three decades ago.
In this concert, Mutter presented three magnificent piano trios from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, joined by her distinguished chamber music partners: American pianist Lambert Orkis- with whom she made a Grammy-winning complete recording of the Beethoven Violin Sonatas as well as of all the Mozart Violin Sonatas- and young German cellist Daniel Muller-Schott- with whom she has recorded the Mozart and Mendels- sohn trios being performed here.
The melodious, neo-romantic new piano Trio by composer-conductor-pianist Andre Preven, one of the greatest musicians of our time, was premiered in April 2009 at New York’s Carnegie Hall during celebrations of his 80th birthday.
Meanwhile, ADACH announced the cancelation of the concert with Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa planned for March 2nd at the Emirates Palace.
Conducting legend Seiji Ozawa has officially declared that he must undergo cancer surgery.
Ozawa is cancelling all his performances scheduled in the next 6 months. That will include concerts in Abu Dhabi, Munich, Berlin, Paris and Vienna. He hopes to resume his activities after the summer.
“Seiji Ozawa is one of the world’s leading conductors and it is impossible to replace him,” said Abdullah Al Ameri, Director of Culture and Arts Department at ADACH.
“We wish Seiji all the best for his operation, a fast recovery and look forward to seeing him in Abu Dhabi in a very near future,” he adedd.
Purchased tickets will be refunded.
However, the second concert of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra on March 5 at Al Jahili Fort, as part of the Al Ain Classics Festival, will take place as planned under the direction of famous young British conductor Daniel Harding, soloist is Turkish pianist Fazil Say.
