Amethi,October 04 : Supporters of India’s anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has started a fresh campaign by targeting Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi constituencies in Amethi to garner support for the passage of the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Hazare supporters initiated a survey to determine the vote bank for Gandhi and the Congress party, during the next general elections, in case the Congress Party fails to pass the people’s Ombudsman Bill in the Parliament.
“If Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party does not support Anna Hazare’s Jan Lokpal Bill in the Parliament, then whether we want to vote for them in the next general elections will be decided through this survey starting from today, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi,” said Prabhat Pandey, Hazare’s supporter.
The ‘survey’ will be conducted over the next one month and cover almost five hundred thousand people in the city.
“I will definitely not vote (for Congress party) and not only in Amethi but I would request the whole nation to spread the message of Anna Hazare and I am not just talking about Rahul Gandhi, but I hope nobody votes for the Congress party,” said Sant Kumar Singh, a local.
The Lokpal Bill or the anti-graft legislation that Hazare is agitating for is seen as a weapon to root out corruption and nepotism from the government machinery and in public life.
