Anna starts door-to-door referendum for Lokpal

New Delhi, July 22: Team Anna has started taking its battle for the Lokpal Bill to the people in a door-to-door referendum starting with Human Resource Development and Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal’s constituency Chandni Chowk in Delhi.

Seven lakh people will now choose between the two versions being offered by the Government and the Civil Society.

It is a process of taking the Jan Lokpal Bill to the janta. Over the next four days, 3000 odd volunteers will meet seven lakh people and hand them a questionnaire.

The common man who is weighed down by corruption is rooting for change, saying, “We are with Anna.”

Even if people don’t know what the Lokpal Bill is, they say, “We don’t know about this, but Anna ji is doing a good thing.”

Meanwhile Anna’s army of volunteers hope that such long hours under the sun will come to some good.

After two days, the volunteers will be back to collect the filled up forms.

What is interesting about this exercise is that it is being carried out only in one constituency, which is the constituency of Kapil Sibal – a man who has been vocal about his disagreement with Anna Hazare’s Jan Lokpal Bill. It now remains to be seen as to whose side will the people take – Anna’s or their MP’s.
