New Delhi, June 08: Anna Hazare and his associates are going on a day-long fast on Wednesday at Rajghat to protest against the midnight police crackdown on Baba Ramdev and his followers over the weekend.
But, unlike the previous Anna dharna in April, the Congress has upped the ante against the civil society.
“There are elements of fascism,” said Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari as the grand old party has decided to step up its attack on Anna Hazare over his fast at Rajghat.
The Congress spokesperson only echoed the tone set by its general secretary earlier on Tuesday questioning Hazare’s secular credentials.
“Anna is a mukhauta (another face) of Sangh Parivar,” said Congress General Secretary BK Hariprasad.
Though it’s not for the first time that Anna and his men have been attacked, a deeply hurt Anna is planning to write to the Prime Minister seeking answers. His team members are bristling with anger and disbelief.
“An allegation against Anna Hazare is not only absurd, it is totally beneath contempt,” Lokpal Bill Drafting Committee member Prashant Bhushan.
After denying him permission to protest at Jantar Mantar, team Anna decided to shift to Rajghat, even as they protested the restriction on protesting at Jantar Mantar.
“I like Raj Ghat more than Jantar Mantar,” said Anna Hazare.
Wednesday’s fast is to protest the Saturday night’s crackdown on Baba Ramdev’s camp at Ramlila Ground. It also comes in the wake of a near breakdown in negotiations for an ambitious anti corruption legislation. For Anna, it is back to Rajghat and Gandhian ways.
