New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday met the family members of Ankit Saxena, who was stabbed to death allegedly by the family members of a woman whom he was in a relationship with. He was accompanied by Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh and Sushil Gupta. While expressing grief over the horrific incident during his meeting with the parents of the victim, the Delhi CM assured them of all legal help. He said the government will make fast-track court and provide the best lawyer. He ensured best medical treatment to Ankit’s mother, who has taken ill, besides all legal help in punishing the culprits.
23-year-old Ankit Saxena was killed in west Delhi’s Khyala area on Thursday night allegedly by the father of an 18-year-old woman with whom he was in a relationship for three years. The woman’s family opposed her relationship with Ankit Saxena, a photographer, as the two belonged to different communities.
After Kejriwal left, around 250 people marched with candles from Ghodewala mandir in Raghubir Nagar till the entrance of the colony. However, Saxena’s family and close friends didn’t join the march saying that the issue has been given a communal angle. Condemning for being given the issue a communal angle, Ankit Rao a close friend of the victim said, ‘Ankit’s father told us he wouldn’t take part, nor should we. One of his closest friends belongs to the minority community and went to Hardwar to scatter his ashes along with his family. How can we take part in something like this then?’
Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was held at Sab ka Ghar, Jamia Nagar, Okhla, East Delhi, in which a large number of representatives of Khudai Khidmatgaar, students of JNU, Jamia Milia Islamia and Delhi University were present. The barbaric killing of Ankit Saxena was strongly condemned. They said be it the killing of Ankit or Akhlaq both are wrong and should be condemned.
