Angry over long power cuts, mob ransacks PSEB office

Ludhiana, August 03: Seven persons, including area councillor Rakesh Sharma, were arrested for allegedly ransacking the office of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) on the Kara Bara Road today.

The residents are reportedly upset over incessant power cuts in the area. Later, the protesters staged a dharna on the Kakowal Road and blocked traffic for over an hour.

According to information, the infuriated mob went to the divisional office of the PSEB on the Kara Bara road around 10.30 am and vented out their anger.

The dharna was lifted when area DSP Param Pal Singh intervened and persuaded the agitators to disperse. The police have registered two separate FIRs against the area councillor and a few of his supporters for damaging government property and interrupting the official work of PSEB officials under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

Residents rued that they were subjected to 14-hour long power cuts every day while PSEB authorities said technical snags were responsible for the problem and the transformer was being changed to sort out the issue.
