Angry fans burn Dhoni’s effigy in Ranchi

Ranchi, June 15: Angry over Team India’s defeat in the ICC World Twenty, the cricket fans in Ranchi, the home town of Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni burnt his effigy to protest India’s exit from the T20 World Cup.

The defending champions are out of the title race following successive defeats in matches against the West Indies and England. Around 50 cricket fans, mostly youth, gathered near Siddo Kanhu park and shouted slogans against Dhoni and burnt his effigy.

Security has been beefed-up near the under-construction house of MS Dhoni at Harmu road in the city. Police are also not ruling the possibility of mob attacking it, like 2007 when India was ousted from the World Cup. The protesters had demolished the boundary wall, but after India’s victory in the Twenty20 tournament the same year, cricket fans had come to rebuild the wall.
