Taking strong offence to the allegation of neglect the junior doctors of Gorakhpur Medical College started beating up patients and journalist, after the family of a child who died of encephalitis blamed doctors’ negligence behind child’s death.
The doctors went on a rampage after the family of a fatal encephalitis victim blamed the child’s death on “neglect” by the attending junior doctors. When the news of the outbreak of violence in the medical college spread media persons rushed to the scene but were also attacked by the angry doctors.
Only when the police arrived at the scene, the situation was controlled. Sources say that as many as 228 children have died in the medical college on account of encephalitis during the current monsoon season. The killer disease which grips large parts of Eastern UP year after year, took a heavy toll of more than 500 in 2011.
