Angered father kills son in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 23: Angered over his son manhandling him and sending him away from his house, a 55-year-old fruit vendor killed his son by hurling a boulder on his head while he was sleeping in front of his house at Moulali under Malkajgiri police station limits here on Sunday.

According to Malkajgiri police, the victim, Syed Mahmood, a lorry mechanic was a resident of Shafi Nagar in Moulali. Around 8.30 pm on Saturday, he returned home and noticed his father, Syed Kareem, a fruit vendor, pressing a knife against the throat of his mother Shakeen Bi and threatening her to kill during a domestic quarrel.

Malkajgiri police inspector B Ramesh said, “Though Mahmood asked Kareem to leave his mother the latter refused and started beating her. Irked with this Syed Mahmood manhandled his father and later asked him to leave his house. Khasim abusing his son left the house.”

“Around 12.30 am on Sunday Khasim returned home and saw Mahmood sleeping in front of the house. He in a fit of rage picked up a boulder and smashed his son’s head and fled away. Hearing to Mahmood’s cries, his mother and neighbours rushed to the spot and shifted him to a near by hospital. However, he was declared brought dead by the doctors there,” said Ramesh.

The police reportedly took Kareem into custody and interrogated him. “He on the other hand said us that that Mahmood is addicted to vices and used to harass him daily for money. He alleged that on Saturday Mahmood manhandled him after he refused to give him Rs 200 that he demanded. We are verifying the facts,” added Ramesh.

Meanwhile, the police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Khasim and started investigation.
