Nawab Mehdi Nawaz Jung established the first cancer hospital of the country Mehdi Nawaz Jung Cancer Hospital and Radium Institute which is presently lying in negligence. The hospital was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on December 8, 1955. The hospital which has just 210 beds is dominated by Andhrite doctors in all departments.
Medical Oncology has 5 doctors of which 4 are Andhrite while one is Telanganite. Surgical oncology has 8 doctors of which 57 belong to Andhra while only 1 Telangana doctor has been appointed. The same discrimination prevailed in radiation oncology where out of 15 professors only 1 belongs to Telangana. All the nurses, medical physicist also belong to Andhra. In contrast to that group IV employees mostly belong to Telangana.
The counseling for 4 vacant posts of professors and doctors is to be held. Now that the Telangana state has been formed there is likelihood that doctors belonging to Telangana will be recruited. But sources say that Andhrite doctors with a planned conspiracy joined Telangana doctors association and they hold high posts. In this case Telangana doctors are being discriminated in Telangana itself.
