Andhra Pradesh in grip of heatwave

Hyderabad, May 12: Andhra Pradesh continued to reel under intense heat with the mercury level hovering between 43 and 48 degrees Celsius in various parts of the state today.

Guntur in coastal region, Adilabad, Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Warangal districts in Telangana and Anatapur and Chittor districts in Rayalaseema were in the grip of intense heat, MeT officials said.

The highest temperature of 48 deg C was recorded at Ramgumdan in Karimnagar district, they said.

For the third consecutive day, Hyderabad with 45 deg C reeled under severe heatwave.

Some residents preferred to stay indoors to get respite and those on the roads covered themselves adequately to escape the blazing sun.

Frequent power cuts added to the woes of Hyderabadis.

Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over isolated parts of Telangana and Rayalaseema regions during the next two days, MeT officials said.
