Hyderabad, December 22: Agitations in support of a united Andhra Pradesh and for a separate Telangana continued across the state today with protesters resorting to fasts, road blockades and demonstrations.
Educational institutions in Prakasam, Visakhapatnam, Anantapur and Kadapa districts remained closed after Joint Action Committee, a body of student unions, gave a shutdown call.
Ruling Congress had called a bandh in Chittoor and Dharmavaram in Anantapur district in support of its demand for ‘Samaikandhra Pradesh’ (unified Andhra Pradesh).
Students and people from all walks of life formed a human chain in Guntur district and road blockades were raised in Kurnool.
Leaders of various political parties resorted to relay hunger strikes in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions to oppose any bifurcation of the state.
Meanwhile, fasting students of SK University were shifted to Government Hospital in Anantapur in view of their deteriorating health condition.
