Andhra Pradesh bids adieu to Lord Ganesh

Hyderabad, September 22: Amidst religious slogans like “Ganapati Bappa Moriay” people in Andhra Pradesh today bid adieu to Lord Ganesh as thousands of idols of the elephant-headed God were immersed across the state.

Lakhs of devotees chanting `mantras’ and `bhajans’ participated in the main procession in the state capital, where hundreds of trucks carrying different sizes of Ganesh idols passed through the thoroughfares before joining the centralised immersion procession which proceeded towards Hussain Sagar lake.

Over 30,000 security personnel, besides the anti-riot RAF, were deployed even as the Army was also kept on stand-by.

The immersion was monitored with 600 video cameras.

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, accompanied by DGP K Aravinda Rao and Hyderabad Mayor B Karthika Reddy made a aerial survey of immersion procession.
