Andhra Home secretary Acharya admitted to hospital

Hyderabad, January 31: Andhra Pradesh home secretary BP Acharya, who was arrested by CBI for allege irregularity in land transfer and sale of villas and apartments, was on Tuesday admitted to hospital after he complained unease in the chest. The 1983-batch IAS officer, held in connection with Emaar-APIIC case relating to alleged irregularities in construction of an upscale township project, is in CBI custody at present.

According to Dr Seshagiri Rao, Head of the Cardiology Department of Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences, Acharya has been kept under observation and his team is monitoring his condition.

“His blood pressure is high and he has to undergo some tests”, Rao said.

He, however, refused to answer whether Acharya will be discharged after the tests, saying it will depend on the outcome of the tests.

A CBI court in Hyderabad had on Tuesday sent the former Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) to CBI custody for two days for further questing.

CBI has registered the case against Acharya under IPC sections relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust among others and relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act on the order of the Andhra Pradesh high court.
