Andhra DGP refuses to comment on Gujarat IPS officer’s remarks

Hyderabad, August 30: Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar today refused to comment on the claims of IPS officer Geetha Johri that Kalimuddin, who, she says, invited fake encounter victim Sohrabuddin Sheikh to Hyderabad in 2005, was an informer of the state police and the CBI.

“How can I comment on her statement. How can I deny or contradict or support. I don’t know what information she has. She never shared it with us. So it’s not proper on my part to comment on her statement,” the top cop told reporters here.

The Gujarat-cadre IPS officer in a curative petition filed in the Supreme Court had said during her investigation into the fake encounter case she had identified the third person accompanying Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausar Bi as Kalimuddin and not Tulsiram Prajapati (as per CBI probe).

It was Kalimuddin who had invited the couple to Hyderabad. There was no trace of Kalimuddin since then, Johri had claimed and further alleged that Andhra Pradesh police was protecting Kalimuddin because he functioned as an informer for them and also for the CBI.

When asked if Andhra Pradesh Police would try to trace Kalimuddin’s whereabouts and nab him, Girish Kumar said “Certainly… if he is involved in any case and if he is wanted… then certainly. We will try to chase him and it won’t be a problem. However, CBI is on the look out and they are taking care of it (investigating the whole matter).”

Sohrabuddin was killed by a joint team of Gujarat and Rajasthan police on November 25, 2005 on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. His wife Kauser bi was killed a few days later.
