Anbumani Ramadoss takes on Jayalalithaa Govt., says ”arrest a political vendetta”

Chennai, May 3 (ANI): Former Union Minister and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday termed his arrest by the Chennai Police as an act of political vendetta by the AIADMK Government in Tamil Nadu.

Anbumani said that the arrest showed the vindictive attitude of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

“The political vendetta carried out by the Jayalalithaa Government continues. All our party leaders, legislators and thousands of party workers have already been arrested and now it”s me. We will face the cases legally,” he said.

Anbumani further said that unwanted charges have been slapped against him.

“Police are arresting me on charges of violations in a youth conference we conducted last year. They claim that I spoke beyond the allotted time limit. They do not have any other charges against me except this,” he said.

The Tamil Nadu Police arrested Ramadoss earlier this mrong for allegedly violating conditions laid down by the police for the conduct of the party”s youth conference held in Mamallapuram near Chennai last year.

The police has reportedly slapped several charges on Ramadoss, including violating some of the key conditions for organising a party event last year.

The Tamil Nadu Government has blamed the PMK for last week”s violence at Marakkanam.

The PMK cadres were protesting and pressing their demand for a judicial probe into a caste violence that took place between Dalits and the most backward Vanniyar caste, which form the main support base of the PMK, on April 25 at Marakkanam near Puducherry.

In the past three days, there were violent protests, where the PMK cadres stoned buses, cut down trees and caused extensive damage to public property. (ANI)
