Amy Adams’ grandmother inspired her to portray Lynne Cheney in ‘Vice’

Washington D.C. [USA], Dec 20 (ANI): American actor Amy Adams has revealed that even though her role of Lynne Cheney in ‘Vice’ was inspired by the former second lady, she also took inspiration from her grandmother for the film.

The 44-year-old actor opened up about how she got into the character and what role her grandmother played in her portrayal of Lynne Cheney in NBC’S ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’, reported Hollywood Reporter.

“As I started researching her, there was something in her voice and something that sort of started to remind me of my grandmother,” Adams shared while talking about the role.

She stated that her grandmother was raised in Utah, while Cheney was born in Wyoming.

“There was just something in the way she was raised. My grandmother was raised on a farm and there was a pioneering spirit. My grandma, she was tough. She told it how it was. There was no sugarcoating it,” she said.

The ‘Sharp Objects’ actor shared how they worked hard at their grandmother’s house.

“We would go over to her house, and it was the idea that the kids would help out. We would clean cans. There was no, like, Grandma spoiling you, which I was used to. She was great but tough. We did a lot of chores. We got worked hard at Grandma’s house, so I guess something about the work ethic that was instilled reminded me of Lynne Cheney,” she recalled.

Adams also talked about the physical transformations she and co-star Christian Bale, had to go through each day to get into their characters.

“Christian often had headphones on. I would often sing as Lynne Cheney, which was fun. Her soundtrack consisted of 1980s hits like Def Leppard’s ‘Pour Some Sugar on Me’,” Adams shared.

While Adams shared that Lynne Cheney is probably not a big fan of the song, she said that she had fun doing the impression.

“I have a big regret that I didn’t actually record this for [director] Adam McKay, because I would often torture him with ‘Lynne Cheney Sings Hits from the ’80s,'” she added.

The ‘Arrival’ actor also shared that she would often try to get into the character by criticising the director as Cheney.

“Which is so not my personality, but I would be like, ‘You’re wearing shorts, and you want me to take you seriously as an authority figure?’ And that sort of thing. I accused him of being a socialist. That sort of thing. You know, light-hearted banter,” she said. [source_without_link]ANI[/source_without_link]
