Aligarh, May 07: A teachers’ body at the Aligarh Muslim University has demanded immediate removal of CCTV cameras installed at the campus, calling the measure as an “unacceptable encroachment” into privacy of people at the premier institute.
At a special meeting of the AMU Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) yesterday, a resolution demanded immediate removal of security cameras installed at many places in the campus.
“We are the only educational institution in the country which has been subjected to this kind of policing. It is an example of curbing democratic rights at the university. It is an unacceptable encroachment into privacy,” AMUTA secretary Jamshed Siddique told reporters here today.
The Association also passed another resolution demanding a judicial enquiry into the alleged suicide of a faculty Srinivas Ramchander Siras early last month.
