Aligarh: Students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) have demanded that chief minister Yogi Adityanath should compensate them for the losses caused to their properties by the police and RAF during the police action on the campus on December 15. The demand came a day after the Uttar Pradesh government started seizing properties of anti-CAA protestors.
The students wrote a letter to the CM stating, “since you have declared seizure of the properties of those who inflicted damage on public and personal properties in Sambhal and Lucknow and put them out for auction, we assume that you will treat the damaged properties of students with the same concern.” Times of India reported.
Maintaining that the cctv footage and video recordings show that scooters and bikes of students were destroyed by the police and RAF inside the campus, former cabinet member of students’ union Ferdous Ahmad Barbhuiya said to Yogi, “We expect sincere help from you as you are the guardian of the state.”
Claiming that the raid by police resulted in great damage to life and property in AMU the students asked what about “personal damage to them. AMU students posed questions like, who is responsible for the loss of an AMU student’s hand? How would the state government compensate it? They were referring to a student whose right hand has been lost permanently and who has been maimed because of police action.
According to the preliminary fact-finding report of three activist lawyers, who visited AMU recently, the armed forces vandalised the bikes and other vehicles belonging to students who had left them on parked on the road.
