Aligarh: Under the ‘Green Campus Initiative’ Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will now produce 5.5 MW electricity from solar energy. The university which is presently producing 5.4 MW electricity will break its own record. It has become the first and the only university to produce electricity through nontraditional method. After the report of energy and water audit under the supervision of the ministry of renewable energy, the administration has decided to increase the production by 1 MW.
Solar energy plant of 3 MW has been set up at riding club with the cost of nearly 20 Cr. This plant works on Voltec technology. It has weather monitoring system and protection against lightning. A rooftop plant of 1.5 MW has been installed across 17 roofs at the campus.
Aligarh Muslim University is one of the oldest and most renowned educational institutes in the country. By going solar and reducing its reliance on conventional power, it has taken a major step towards Government’s vision to ‘transform, energise and clean India’.
