AMU is not a minority institution: Yogi Adityanath

Aligarh: Claiming that Aligarh Muslim University is not a minority institute, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, AMU must give reservation to Dalits and backward classes. He told this while addressing the Booth members of Braj area on Wednesday.

Adityanath said since AMU receives crores of grant, it is not a minority institution. Adityanath said while the Centre was giving crores of rupees to AMU, the opposition parties were not coming clean on the issue as they were preoccupied with appeasing minorities.

Yogi Adityanath asked the Congress, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) to clarify their stand on the issue of members of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) not getting reservation benefits at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Several leaders slammed UP chief minister Adityanath for his remark on the minority status of AMU and declared it as unconstitutional.
