AMU expelled Kashmiri student for FB post against #UriAttack martyrs

New Delhi: Amid of the unrest in Kashmir aftermath of killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani in an encounter. A Kashmiri student was expelled on Monday from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for posting “objectionable” comments on Facebook over the terror attack on the army base in Uri.

Modasir Yousuf, a student of MSc in Organic Chemistry commented over the terror attack near 12 battalion headquarters in Uri close to the Line of Control (LoC) early morning on Sunday in which 18 soldiers were killed mostly unarmed who were sleeping.

AMU Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah has taken the matter very seriously and probed the matter personally. Later Yousuf has offered his apologies but the university authorities went ahead with his expulsion due to the sensitivity of the issue.

BJP Lok Sabha Member from Aligarh, Satish Kumar Gautam had also written to the Vice Chancellor demanding stringent action against the student for his Facebook post.

The spokesman said.“Lt Gen Shah said that there is no scope whatsoever at AMU for tolerating any incident which smacks of anti-national sentiments.”

In the early morning on Sunday, four terrorists sneaked into a military base, threw grenades and opened fire. The terrorists, said to be from the Jaish-e-Mohammed whose chief Masood Azhar is based in Pakistan, were killed in an intense three-hour gun-battle.

Meanwhile, normal life continued to remain affected due to the restrictions and the shutdown called by separatist groups.Shops, business establishments and petrol pumps continued to remain shut during the day even on Eid eve.
