AMU elects governing body, Pranab Mukherjee’s son inducted

New Delhi: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) elected 42 people from different spheres as members of AMU Court, the highest governing body of the varsity, with President Pranab Mukherjee’s son Abhijeet being inducted from Learned Professions and Industry category.

The AMU Court meeting which concluded in Aligarh on Sunday also elected Ashok Seth, noted cardiologist and an alumnus of the varsity, and Zafar Iqbal, former Indian Hockey captain, according to an official notification.

Besides Mukherjee, among others elected from the Learned Professions and Industry category is Syed Zillur Rahman, noted expert in the field of Unani Medicine. Prominent among 15 members elected from the Muslim Culture and Learning category are A M Pathan, former V-C of Central University of Karnataka; Saiyida Saiyyidain Hameed, former member of the Planning Commission; and Shahid Jameel, noted scientist.

Shamsur Rahman Farooqui and Gopichand Narang are from the category of Urdu Language and Literature. Maulana Rabey Hasan Nadvi, Head of Nadwatul Ulema, and Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, prominent Shia scholar, are from Muslim Religious Scholars category.
