Amritsar: Heroin worth Rs 7.5 crore seized by Punjab Police

Punjab Police today seized 1.5 kg heroin worth Rs. 7.5 crore from the house of an alleged peddler in New Delhi.

The drug was recovered from the house of Raman Pandit, who was supplied the contraband by a Pakistan-based smuggler Akram Dayal, IGP (Border) Ishwar Chander said in Amritsar.

Mr Chander said the seizure has been made after the interrogation of Mr Pandit who was arrested on July 5 along with co-accused Bhajan Singh with 12 kg heroin valued at Rs. 60 crore, he said.

Mr Pandit, a resident of Delhi, was the “end-recipient” of the drugs supplied under the racket.

He had acquired this consignment of heroin about three months ago and was yet to dispose it. The consignment was cleverly hidden in the shoe-rack of an almirah in his house in Lok Vihar, Pitampura, New Delhi.

He said the Akram Dayal-led drug cartel was pushing heroin from Muzaffarabad in Pak-Occupied Kashmir through the J&K sector and Punjab. It is delivered to “end-recipients” based in Delhi.PTI
