GHMC allocated Rs. 1000 crore for the preservation of heritage buildings but it is very surprising that the officials of GHMC are not in a position to reply about its utilization. The then Mayor of Hyderabad, Mr. Majid Husain had announced that GHMC has allocated Rs. 1000 crore for the repair works of heritage buildings. It may be noted that there is a heritage cell in GHMC but it failed to protect heritage buildings. Mr. Srinivas Rao who is Additional Director of Heritage Cell of GHMC could not reply as to what happened to this fund. Another Additional Commissioner of GHMC Mr. Jairaj Kennedy also could not give any clear reply. Mr. Srinivas Rao pleaded ignorance that he has any knowledge of this allocation. Mr. Jairaj told that this question should be put to another officer not to him.
The sources of GHMC informed that Quli Qutub Shah Development Authority had pointed out that Khursheed Jahi Devdhi, Charminar, Machli Kaman, Kaman Sahr-e-Batin, Kali Kaman and Char Kaman need repairs and the services of a consultant were also commissioned. A detailed project report was also prepared. Soon after the ending of the tenure of GHMC, there is a shortage of funds and these projects are not being undertaken.
