Amos condemns Chidambaram’s remarks on Telangana

Senior Congress leader and MLC K R Amos on Wednesday condemned Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s statement that the stakeholders should come up with a clear stand on Telangana issue.

Talking to media persons at Assembly media point, Amos said that Chidambaram, who holds a responsible position, should not make such remarks and shift the responsibility on the stakeholders. He said that the Constitution of India has provided the Centre with full powers to establish smaller states under the Article 3.

At the time of merger, he said that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru clearly stated that Telangana people could separate themselves any time if they were dissatisfied with the united Andhra Pradesh State. Following that Gentlemen’s Agreement, the Telangana people are now demanding separate Telangana State, he said.

Amos appealed to Chidambaram to act responsibly and honour his promise of giving Telangana made on December 9, 2009 and save the lives of students who are committing suicides. (INN)
