Amnesty should not be meant for anti-nationals

Jalandhar, February 26: The BJP in Punjab today said the proposed amensty to Sikhs who left the country at the peak of militancy in the state should strictly be confined to those among them who believed in the Indian Constitution and genuinely wanted to join the mainstream.

On its alliance partner SAD pitching for amnesty to Sikhs who left the country after eruption of militancy in the state, newly elected state BJP Chief Avinash Sharma told reporters that his party was not opposed to the idea but stressed that initiative should be meant only for those Sikhs who believe in the Indian Constitution and wanted to join the mainstream leaving behind thoughts of separatism.

“We do not want that amnesty should be given to anti-national elements and we will oppose the same”, Sharma said.
