Chennai: In a passionate letter to Hillary Clinton, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday said that the Democratic presidential nominee continued to be a ‘role model’ for women across the globe and lauded her on making history by becoming the first woman presumptive presidential nominee.
“Kindly accept my heartiest congratulations on clinching the nomination as the Democratic Party’s candidate for the election of the President of the United States of America. It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction for all the women in the world and in particular, women in democratic electoral politics that you have become the first woman to be a candidate of one of the two major political parties in the United States for the Presidency,” the letter stated.
Asserting that in creating history, Hillary has given voice and hope to the cause of women empowerment across the world, the Chief Minister added that she had no doubts that she will continue to be a role model for women across the world, as her political career peaks.
“I have fond memories of your visit to Chennai on 20th July, 2011, as Secretary of State, and our warm and cordial interaction on the occasion on a range of issues of mutual interest,” Jayalalithaa added.
The letter concludes with the Chief Minister wishing Hillary for the further stages of the campaign and for the Presidential Election in November this year. (ANI)
