Amit Shah meets Sangh leaders to strengthen alliance

Ahead of Assembly polls in four states, the Sangh Parivar will witness key appointments under the regime of new BJP chief Amit Shah.

Top BJP leaders, including Shah and Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, met senior RSS functionaries — including Bhaiyyaji Joshi — on Thursday and discussed a host of issues, including better coordination between the two organisations and the government.

The meeting assumes significance as it is the first of this scale since Shah took over as BJP president and key appointments are likely to be made in the coming days as their incumbents have been made ministers in the NDA government.

Incidentally, Modi also invited top RSS leaders for talks over dinner the same day. BJP sources said Modi was keen that ties with the RSS remain strong.

BJP leaders believe a strain in the relationship during former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s era worked to the disadvantage of both sides and was a reason behind its defeat in 2004.
