Amit Garg is new Vijayawada police chief

Hyderabad, January 19: After keeping a few IPS officers in suspense for the last few days, the state government today appointed Amit Garg as the new Vijayawada police commissioner. He is likely to take charge of his new assignment on Thursday.

The government today gave postings to 10 IPS officers, most of whom were promoted from the rank of SPs to DIGs. The post of DIG of Karimnagar range, which was lying vacant for the last several months, was also filled up.

A 1993 batch IPS officer, Amit Garg will relieve DIG Eluru range G Surya Prakash Rao, who had been holding additional charge after the government shifted the controversial IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu from the post following allegations of sleaze against him.

A 1997 batch IPS officer, N Madhusudhan Reddy, who was working as DCP, South zone, will replace Amit Garg as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Headquarters.

Amit Garg previously worked as SP Vizianagaram, DCP, Detective Department, DCP, West zone, Joint Commissioner, Special Branch and Joint Commissioner, CAR. He had a stint in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and was posted in Kolkata.
