Islamabad: Shehbaz Sharif, the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and brother of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, underwent a medical examination at a private hospital here on Sunday.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials brought Sharif to the hospital, where his blood tests and Computed Tomography (CT) scan were conducted.
The Pakistani opposition leader is expected to get his CT scan report on November 27, following which doctors would brief him on his medical condition, Geo News reported, quoting sources.
Sharif’s check-up was necessitated after a report revealed that that the 67-year-old leader is suffering from cancer, sources said on Friday. His medical test was conducted after he had complained of throat pain.
Taking cognizance, doctors had recommended a CT scan to be conducted immediately, sources further said.
Last week, Sharif told an accountability court that he was suffering from cancer and alleged that he was not being allowed by the NAB officials to undergo a medical examination.
Sharif, who was arrested by the NAB on charges of misusing authority and corruption in the Rs 14 billion Ashiana Housing Scheme during his tenure as the Punjab Chief Minister (2013 to 2018), has been in custody since October 5.
The PML-N chief has, however, denied any wrongdoings and dubbed the allegations as “baseless”.
