Wellington, March 02: American skipper Brad Van Liew has won his third consecutive leg in the Velux 5 Oceans race, pulling into Punta del Este, Uruguay, eight days after rounding Cape Horn in his 60-foot sloop.

The 43-year-old skipper sailed 6,530 nautical miles from Wellington, New Zealand, to Punta del Este in 23 days, 17 hours and 46 minutes.

Van Liew won this race in 2002, when it was called the Around Alone, and was third in 1999.
