A US citizen working as a teacher at an English-language institute in Yemen was shot dead Sunday by suspected Al Qaeda gunmen, media reports said.
Two masked men riding a motorcycle fired eight shots at the American, who was on his way to work in Yemen’s second largest city of Taiz, CNN reported.
The dead man has been identified as Johl Schrim, head of the English-language department at the Swedish institute in the city, an official told Xinhua requesting anonymity.
The teacher died on the sport.
The attackers fled after the shooting.
The defence ministry said security forces were hunting for the suspected Al Qaeda gunmen.
On Friday, gunmen abducted a Swiss woman working as a language teacher in the western province of Hodeida and took her to Shabwa province, an Al Qaeda stronghold.
